La re-traumatización es cuando se reviven las reacciones de estrés experimentadas como resultado de un acontecimiento traumático anterior al enfrentarse a un nuevo incidente similar. Re-traumatization is when stress reactions experienced as a result of a previous traumatic event are relived when faced with a new similar incident. However, as time passes, many people do not realize that the stress they are feeling is related to the previous traumatic experience.

This updated TIP is designed to help providers and others better understand how to identify, manage, and prevent substance misuse in older adults. The TIP describes the unique ways in which the signs and symptoms of substance use disorder (SUD) manifest in older adults; drug and alcohol use disorder screening tools, assessments, and treatments specifically tailored for older clients' needs; the interaction between SUDs and cognitive impairment; and strategies to help providers improve their older clients' social functioning and overall wellness.

The content includes specific instructions and suggested remarks for group leaders, and exercises for group members. This model will work in a variety of clinical settings, and with diverse audiences.
