Get the Facts. is a series of 13 fact sheets designed to increase awareness of the risks associated with prescription opioid use and misuse, as well as to educate patients who are prescribed opioids for pain about the risks and to provide resources on methods for alternative pain management. This particular fact sheet focuses on how clinicians can discuss the appropriate use of opioids, dosage, and the dangers of opioid use disorder and overdose.

The manual also offers guidance for medication-assisted treatment for methadone and buprenorphine, and overdose and relapse prevention.
Published: September 2023This publication is a product of the HEALing Communities Study (HCS) and informed by the Communities That HEAL (CTH) Intervention Manual as well as integral contributions from research and community partners across four research sites. This guide was developed in recognition of the need to center community engagement throughout the efforts to address the opioid overdose crisis. This guide exists to help communities decrease opioid overdose deaths; it includes tools and real-world examples that can be used to build and strengthen community coalitions that work to reduce opioid overdose deaths.
